Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

We built NewsBuster.AI with privacy as a default. This policy explains clearly and simply what data we collect, why we need it, and what we will never do with it.

We only collect
Phone numberName (if you provide it)Username (if you choose one)Content you submit for checkingAdvertising identifier (GAID / IDFA)Anonymised usage data

No email. No date of birth. No location. No contacts. No browsing history from other apps.

1. Who we are

NewsBuster.AI is an independent AI-assisted fact-checking utility. We are not a news agency, news publisher, broadcaster, media house, editorial organisation, or journalistic entity. We do not produce, publish, or originate news content of any kind.

Our service processes content you submit — text, URLs, or images — by cross-referencing publicly available information using AI models and web-search technology. All outputs are algorithmically generated. They reflect publicly indexed internet data, not our opinions, beliefs, or editorial judgement.

2. What we collect and why

Phone number — used only to authenticate you via a one-time password sent through an OTP delivery service. We do not use it for marketing without your consent.

Advertising identifier (GAID on Android / IDFA on iOS)— collected once after you log in, in the background. On Android this is Google's resettable advertising ID. On iOS we request Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission; if you decline, the identifier is not collected. We use this to understand how features perform and improve the app experience. You can reset or opt out at any time: Android → Settings → Google → Ads; iOS → Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Name — optional. Stored only if you choose to add it to your profile inside the app.

Username — optional. Stored only if you set a public handle for the community feed.

Content you submit for checking — the claim, URL, or image you paste/upload is processed through our AI pipeline. We store your check history so you can review past results. We do not link individual checks to your identity when publishing aggregated statistics.

Anonymised usage analytics — which features you use, how often, what types of checks you run. This helps improve the product. Not sold. Not shared with advertisers.

Device metadata — OS version, app version, device model. Used only for bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by a third-party payment processor. We store only your subscription status and a transaction reference. We never store your card numbers, UPI handles, or bank account details.

3. What we never collect

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not use third-party ad networks.

4. How we use your data

5. Third-party services

We use third-party services to deliver our product. These services may process parts of your data under their own privacy policies. We refer to them by their category to avoid this document becoming a technical specification:

OTP delivery providerDelivers the one-time password to your phone. Your number is shared only for OTP delivery.
AI processing providerPowers the fact-checking analysis. Claim text you submit is sent to their API.
Web search providerUsed to find and cross-reference sources. Your claim may be used as a search query.
Payment processorHandles subscription payments. Governed by their own privacy policy. We receive only subscription status.
Cloud database providerHosts your account data in a data centre in India.
Caching and rate-limit serviceTemporary, non-personal data used to manage request limits.

We do not use advertising trackers, pixel trackers, or analytics platforms that sell data.

6. Government, law enforcement & legal compliance

We comply with applicable Indian law, including the Information Technology Act 2000 and its rules. In limited circumstances, we may be legally required to disclose certain user data to government authorities, law enforcement agencies, or courts. Such disclosures occur only when:

We will notify you of any such disclosure where we are legally permitted to do so. We may also retain or disclose data if required by regulations, audits, or legal proceedings applicable to us.

Government situation clause: In cases of declared national emergency, court-ordered content investigation, or regulatory action, we may be required to retain, preserve, or share data beyond our standard retention periods. This is beyond our control and governed entirely by applicable law. By using this service, you acknowledge and accept this possibility.

7. Data retention and deletion

Free plan check history is retained for 7 days. Pro plan history is retained until you delete it or close your account.

When you delete your account, all personal data associated with your account — including your phone number, name, username, check history, posts, and preferences — is permanently and irreversibly deleted from all our systems within 30 days. After 30 days, this data cannot be recovered by you, by us, or by anyone.

Anonymised, aggregated analytics data (with no link to your identity) may be retained for longer periods for product improvement.

Data we are legally required to retain under applicable law may be kept for the period mandated by that law, even after account deletion.

8. Refund policy summary

All payments for Pro, Annual, or Lifetime plans are final and non-refundable once a subscription is activated. We do not offer refunds for partial months, unused checks, or accidental purchases.

Refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis only in exceptional circumstances — such as verifiable payment processing errors or duplicate charges. To request a review, email contact@thenewsbuster.com with subject "Refund Request" within 7 days of the charge. We will review and respond within 7 business days. Approval is not guaranteed.

Deleting your account does not automatically trigger a refund for any remaining subscription period.

9. AI accuracy disclaimer

AI systems can and do make mistakes. Always verify independently before acting on any verdict.

NewsBuster.AI uses AI-powered analysis to generate fact-check verdicts. These verdicts are informational only and should be treated as a starting point for further research, not as authoritative conclusions. AI models can produce incorrect, outdated, biased, or incomplete outputs. We continuously work to improve accuracy, but we make no guarantee that any verdict is free from error.

A verdict of "REAL" does not certify that a claim is true. A verdict of "FAKE" does not certify that a claim is entirely without basis. Use your own judgement. Read twice. Think critically. NewsBuster.AI is a tool to help you think, not a replacement for thinking.

10. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data.

11. Children

NewsBuster.AI is not directed at children under 13. We delete data of any user under 13 immediately upon discovery.

12. Changes to this policy

Material changes will be notified inside the app before taking effect. The "last updated" date always reflects the current version.

13. Contact
